You will be numb for a few hours after the procedure. Avoid eating anything hard until the numbness has worn off. This will help prevent injuries and protect your new dental work.
Modify your flossing habits temporarily. Do not try to floss the area around your new crown or bridge. This could damage your dental work and cause pain and inflammation.
Your tooth may feel a little sore after the surgery. This is normal and should resolve on its own within a couple of weeks.
Drink plenty of fluids on the day before your procedure until bedtime, but do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your extraction.
Bring someone with you to the procedure who can drive you home and stay with you post-procedure.
Patients under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign consent forms.
Rest for the remainder of the day after your procedure.
If you experience any pain, take the pain medication prescribed to you as directed.
It is important to keep your mouth clean. Brush your teeth the night of surgery, but be gentle around the surgical sites. Swish salt water rinses (mix 1 tablespoon of salt with 8 ounces of water) in your mouth 2-3 times a day.
Stay on bed or couch rest for the first day after surgery and avoid strenuous activities.
Avoid drinking from a straw for the first 7 days of healing.
Gradually progress to solid foods over the next several days, but make sure to not skip meals!
If you have diabetes, maintain your normal eating habits or follow instructions given by your doctor.
