EXTRACTIONS

Pre-Procedure

Drink plenty of fluids on the day before your procedure until bedtime, but do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your extraction.


Bring someone with you to the procedure who can drive you home and stay with you post-procedure.


Patients under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign consent forms.


Rest for the remainder of the day after your procedure.

EXTRACTIONS

POST-Procedure: Day of procedure

If you experience any pain, take the pain medication prescribed to you as directed.


It is important to keep your mouth clean. Brush your teeth the night of surgery, but be gentle around the surgical sites. Swish salt water rinses (mix 1 tablespoon of salt with 8 ounces of water) in your mouth 2-3 times a day.


Stay on bed or couch rest for the first day after surgery and avoid strenuous activities.


Avoid drinking from a straw for the first 7 days of healing.


Gradually progress to solid foods over the next several days, but make sure to not skip meals!


If you have diabetes, maintain your normal eating habits or follow instructions given by your doctor.

Rinse your mouth with salt water often


Brush your teeth, but be gentle


Apply moist heat to the area for discoloration


Swelling and soreness is normal


Eat a soft diet for a few days


Take ibuprofen as needed for pain and to reduce redness and swelling


Take antibiotics as prescribed to prevent infection.


Drink lots of fluids
